US appeals court rules Obamacare individual mandate unconstitutional

A federal appeals court in New Orleans found that the Affordable Care Act mandate (ACA) — which instructed Americans to obtain health insurance and placed a tax penalty on those who could but did not — is unconstitutional. The ruling does not invalidate the entire law and the case will now be heard by a lower court for additional analysis of ACA provisions “as they currently exist.”
